Problem Note 46792: Using DEFER=YES in a Netezza LIBNAME statement turns off in-database processing of Base SAS® procedures

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

Using the LIBNAME engine with SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Netezza with one of the following procedures might result in an error.

  • PROC MEANS/SUMMARY
  • PROC FREQ
  • PROC REPORT
  • PROC TABULATE
  • PROC REPORT
  • PROC REPORT

The error, shown below, occurs when the DEFER=YES option is included in the LIBNAME statement. Rather than the majority of the processing being done within Netezza, SAS retrieves the rows from the table and processes the procedure itself. This might result in a performance issue.
ERROR: Requested function is not supported.
Also, the following warning might appear in the SAS log if the system option MSGLEVEL = I was set:
WARNING: SQL generation is not possible because incompatible dataset
options such as OBS, FIRSTOBS or GENERATION have been specified.
Currently, the only workaround is to remove the DEFER=YES option from the LIBNAME statement.
